The Varadero International Marathon is unique sporting event in a paradisiacal environment. It is the only marathon held in Cuba’s biggest coastal resort on the northern edge of this sun-drenched Caribbean. Organized in partnership with the Cuban Athletics Federation, with middle distance legend and double Olympic gold medallist, Alberto Juantorena heading the organising committee. Oher Olympic Medalists such as Ana Fidelia Quirot, Javier Sotomayor, Caridad Colón, Dayron Robles and Jorge Luís Aguilera are also part of the race organisation.

The first edition of the Varadero International Half Marathon was held in 2018 and now offers three main distances: 10K, 21K and 42K as well as a 3K Fun Run. The race itself, which features both elite and recreational runners, is along the coast on a predominantly flat course with a Caribbean atmosphere and an average temperature of 20C. After the race, runners can expect a celebration party with a Cuban orchestra, drinks and food stalls.
